Bopanna-Mergea advances in Madrid Open doubles


Madrid, May 5 (IANS): Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea defeated Marin Draganja and Henri Kontinen 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-6 in the Round of 32 at the $4,660,678 Madrid Open tennis tournament here.

The Indo-Romanian pair were involved in a fierce contest with fortunes swaying both ways. Bopanna-Mergea won 77 of the 153 points played on Monday.

Bopanna-Mergea maintained their composure and finally outplayed the Croat-Finnish duo in the third set tie-breaker at the clay court event.
