Frenchman Belaud wins men's modern pentathlon World Cup


Kecskemet (Hungary), May 4 (IANS): Valentin Belaud of France won the men's modern pentathlon World Cup meet here.

Belaud gathered 1504 points to win, followed by Russia's Ilia Frolov (1,495) and fellow Frenchman Valentin Prades (1,487), reports Xinhua.

Belaud scored 238 points in fencing, 311 in swimming, 293 in riding, and 662 in combined event. Runner-up Frolov scored 252 in fencing, 316 in swimming, 296 in riding, and 631 in combined event.

Third placed title holder Prades scored 240 in fencing, 321 in swimming, 287 in riding, and 639 in combined event.

South Korean Woongtae Jun was fourth with 1485 points. Pavlo Tymoshchenko of Ukraine finished fifth (1480) and Frenchman Christopher Patte secured the sixth spot (1476).

Zsofia Foldhazi of Hungary (1361) won the women's final on Saturday, followed by Elodie Clouvel of France (1358).
