Belgian footballer critical after collapsing


Brussels, April 29 (IANS): Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens is in critical condition here after he collapsed while playing for Sporting Lokeren, struck by a heart attack.

The 24-year-old collapsed on the field 20 minutes into the game against Genk on Tuesday and was rushed to a hospital, reports Xinhua.

Mertens began his career in Brussels with FC Anderlecht, moved to Bruges in 2011 before transferring to Lokeren in January 2014. He has capped several times for Belgian national youth sides.
