Tibetans pray for Nepal quake victims

Dharamsala, April 28 (IANS): Thousands of Tibetans assembled on Tuesday in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, to pray for the victims of the earthquake that devastated Nepal last weekend.

Expressing his profound grief and condolences at the prayer service, Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay said: "The earthquake has resulted in extensive damage to life and property in Nepal and its adjoining countries like Tibet, Bangladesh, Bhutan and India."

"Among the dead include two Tibetans, one youth in Boudha and a nun in border area nunnery. Minor damages to monasteries and remote Tibetan settlements in Nepal have also been reported," he said.

Explaining the situation in Tibet, he said: "The impact of the earthquake has also affected many areas in Tibet, particularly Kyidong, Nyalam, Dhingri and Dromo. At least 20 Tibetans have been confirmed dead and 65 injured as a result of the earthquake."

The Central Tibetan Administration will donate money as contribution towards relief efforts in Nepal and has instructed its representatives in offices abroad and settlement officers to collect donations from their respective areas for the quake victims.
