Udupi, Mar 16: The district magistrate has declared that Section 144 will be clamped in the Udupi taluk limits in view of proposed National Highway bundh on Saturday March 17.

The Nagarjuna Virodhi Samiti and Nandikur Janajagruti Samiti along with a few like-minded organizations have given call to hold bundh on National Highway 17 from Byndoor in Kundapur to Talapady near Mangalore.  The bundh call has been given in protest of setting-up of Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant at Nandikur.

In an order issued her on Friday March 16, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj said that Section 144 will be clamped on Saturday.  He has also ordered to keep all liquor shops closed on Saturday.

Police security has been beefed up in the taluk and in the entire district as well along the National Highway 17.  Additional forces have been deployed to meet any unwanted situation.

Deputy commissioner has already issued notice to the protestors and warned they would be held responsible to any loss to public property during the day-long bundh.  He has also warned that the organizations which have given call for bundh will have to bear the loss done to public property.
