Mangalore, Mar 13: A grand ceremony marked the Institution Day of Fr Muller Charitable Institution and the Graduation Ceremony of students of Fr Muller Institute of Health Sciences. The event held on the Fr Muller Hospital ground was participated by NDA convenor and former defence minister George Fernandes.

Fernandes presented the awards to the graduates on the occasion.   He also inaugurated the Lawrence Fernandes Memorial Ward on the occasion. 

In his address he recalled his long association with the premier health institute and said that is a great honour to be present on the occasion.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor Dr P S Prabhakaran who spoke on the occasion said that although technological advances in the field of medicine have brought about great progress in the process of saving lives, the policy ‘prevention is better than cure’ holds good even today. Obtaining health care will be considered peoples’ right and they will ask for it in the days to come, he said.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore presided over the programme. Director, Fr Muller Charitable Institutions Fr Baptist Menezes, Dean FMCH Dr Sanjeev Rai and director Fr Denis D'Sa were also present on the dais.

On the occasion, Father Muller Charitable Institutions Award for the year 2007 was awarded to Sr Maria Theresa, founder principal of Father Muller College of Nursing, for her dedicated service and Dr Kumar Mitrachandra Dhawale, an eminent Homoeopathic physician hailing from Mumbai, for his contribution in the field of homoeopathy.
