Kolkata cricketer Rahul Ghosh's condition stable

Kolkata, April 22 (IANS): The condition of cricketer Rahul Ghosh, hospitalised after sustaining a head injury during a local league match, is stable but not yet out of danger, his father said on Wednesday.

A day after the tragic demise of former Bengal Under-19 captain Ankit Keshri due to an on-field injury, Ghosh was on Tuesday rushed to the Nightingale Hospital in central Kolkata after he got injured while fielding during a second division league match between his team Kolkata Police and Vijay Sports.

"The doctors today said his condition is stable, though he is not yet out of danger. They said they will conduct some medical examinations on him today, to ascertain if he requires a surgery," said the cricketer's father Amitabha Ghosh.

Approaching 20, Ghosh was injured on the left side of his head after being hit by a ball.

The cricket world plunged into gloom on Monday after Keshri, regarded as a bright future prospect, succumbed to a head injury sustained during a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) senior knockout tournament game last Friday.

The 20-year-old Keshri -- turning out for his club East Bengal against Bhowanipore -- got injured and fell unconscious following an on-field collision with fellow fielder Sourav Mondal while taking a catch.

He passed away in the same hospital early on Monday following a cardiac arrest. His bereaved family has alleged "medical negligence".
