Mumbai, Mar 13
: On her first day in office as Mumbai’s mayor, Dr Shubha Raul came to the rescue of over 2.18 lakh students studying in 428 private schools in the city.

Raul initiated a dialogue between the BMC administration and the Mumbai Primary Private Teaching and Non-Teaching Union, which had called for an indefinite strike starting March 14 over the issue of revision of pay grades for teachers and school personnel.

The Union’s representatives called off their strike plans after an assurance from BMC’s top brasses that the issue of the pay hike will be resolved soon.

The assurance came after 40-year-old Raul brought the disputing parties to her chamber for a meeting on Monday. The strike would have adversely affected students, who are currently preparing for examinations as more than 3,000 teachers were expected to join the agitation.
