We've to ute our plans well to win: Sammy

Bengaluru, April 18 (IANS): With one away win and one loss on home turf, hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are sweating out for a victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL-T20 tie here on Sunday.

"In T20 format, both teams stand a good chance to win. Mumbai has got some match winners. We can't take them for granted. We need to execute our plans well to win over them," RCB all-rounder Daren Sammy told reporters on Saturday at the Chinnswamy Stadium in the city centre.

With four defeats on trot, a beleaguered Mumbai is desperate to register its first win in the tournament's eighth edition.

After a dramatic three-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata on April 11, RCB lost to Sun Risers Hyderabad by eight wickets here on April 13.

Observing that RCB would have an edge playing on the home ground with the support of its die-hard fans, the West Indian said the entire team, however, had to perform really well and the task was cut out for all players.

"If we want to win, the team has to perform as a unit and every player's role is important. We can't be depending only on (Chris) Gayle, (Virat) Kohli and AB (de Villiers) or one or two bowlers to deliver every time," Sammy said ahead of the league match.

Admitting that his performance in the first two games was not impressive, Sammy said he was, however, confident of proving his ability to bat, bowl and field far better.

"I am here to impact the team and help RCB win matches. No better time to kick-start than tomorrow (Sunday). We have another big game coming in succession here on Wednesday against Chennai Super Kings," Sammy said.

On Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc joining team, Sammy said the team was expecting him to reach Bengaluru on Sunday and play against Mumbai if fit or certainly against Chennai on April 22.

"He (Starc) is decent and in good form, which is a plus point. He has had good year, especially with the white ball. To have him here to lead the attack would be a massive advantage to us," the former West Indies captain added.
