Mangalore, Mar 7: The annual Rachana Awards have been announced.  Charles L Rodgrigues of Kalladka has won the ‘Agriculturist of the year’, Lancy Mascarenhas of Lancy Construction has bagged the ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ while Justice Michael F Saldanha has been selected for the ‘Professional of the year’ award.  Bangalore-based entrepreneur Ronald Colaco has bagged the ‘NRI Entrepreneur of the year award.

This was announced in a press conference held here on Wednesday March 7 morning by Rachana president Marcel Monteiro.

Rachana, the forum of Catholic entrepreneurs, businessmen and professionals which was founded in 1998 to recognize and honour achievers of the community, instituted The Rachana Awards.  This is the fourth consecutive year and the awards are being given in following fields.

1. Rachana Agriculturist of the year
2. Rachana Entrepreneur of the year
3. Rachana Professional of the year
4. Rachana NRI Entrepreneur of the year

The process began with Rachana calling for applications/ nominations with wide publicity through news papers, church announcements and internet.  A selection panel of eminent individuals was constituted, consisting of  Fr Francis Lewis, director ' Sandesha', Clarence Pais, notary and advocate, John Prasad Menezes, president, KCCI,  Felix Albuquerque, builder M P  Noronha, advocate, Herald D'Souza, businessman, Roy Castelino, promoter and builder,  Louis J Pinto, businessman, Rudolph Rodrigues, chartered accountant, Cashmir Menezes, agriculturist, Joe D’Souza, assistant horticulture officer and Joe Coelho, businessman.     

The awards will be present at a grand awards ceremony on Saturday March 10 at Milagres Jubilee Hall here Allen C A Pereira, executive director, Oriental Bank of Commerce, New Delhi and chairman and managing director (Designate) UCO Bank, Kolkatta will be chief guest while Austin Tauro, former chairman, Indian Oil Corporation will be the guest of honour   and Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza, of Mangalore will preside over the function. 

Roy Castelino, the jury member, secretary Ronald Gomes and community leader Ivan D'Souza were also present at the press conference.
