BJP pats Modi, Shah for spreading its wings nationwide

Bengaluru, April 4 (IANS): An upbeat BJP on Saturday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah for expanding the party's footprint over the last 10 months, with a presence from parliament to panchayats across the country.

"We congratulate Narendra Modi for his dynamic leadership and Amit Shah for his organisational capacity, as they have taken the party to the country's nook and corner, covering all social strata and regions," the Bharatiya Janata Party said in a political resolution adopted at its two-day national executive here.

Claiming to become the world's largest political party, with the highest number of members (93 million), the 10-page resolution lauded Modi and Shah for the party's historical win in the 2014 general elections, which brought the BJP back to power after a decade, with a clear majority to form the NDA government at the centre again with a dozen alliance partners.

"After the parliamentary poll, the party won elections and formed governments in Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra and a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir with the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party).

"In between, it had won majority in panchayats (rural and urban bodies) in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan across the country," the resolution said.

It was, however, silent on its humiliating defeat in the 70-member Delhi assembly elections in February at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won 67 seats, while the BJP could only bag the remaining three seats.

"The process of our party's expansion is speeding up and spreading across the country through innovative use of technology. The party is also widening its base across all sections of society and regions," the resolution said.

The party also entered the West Bengal legislative assembly by registering a win in the recent bye-elections, with an increasing vote share in other constituencies in the state.

"In the past 10 months the nation has witnessed faster change, greater transparency with high growth in sight, thanks to our government and a leader like Modi," it said.

The 330-member executive also praised the Modi government for initiating programmes, quick decision-making process and actionable policies.

"Our government is making efforts to ensure transparency in the allocation of natural resources like spectrum and coal. It is implementing programmes for health and sanitation, welfare of industrial labour, employment and skill training for youth," the resolution said.

To bring all inclusive development and ensure participation of larger number of people in the democratic processes, the Modi government has invoked the spirit of cooperative federalism, empowering states with greater say in decision-making processes for allocation of financial resources.

"This has paved the way for a 'Team India' where states work with the centre to strengthen our communities and empower every citizen," the resolution added.
