Al Shabaab warns Kenya of further attacks

Mogadishu, April 4 (IANS): Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab has warned Kenya of further attacks three days after the attack on the Kenyan university which has so far claimed 148 lives.

In a statement, Al-Shabaab accused Kenya of atrocities against Muslims in Kenya and the same by Kenya defence forces in Somalia, noting that Kenya would not "enjoy peace until security becomes a reality in the Muslims lands".

"No amount of precaution or safety measures will be able to guarantee your safety, thwart another attack or prevent another bloodbath from occurring in your cities," Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying.

In a section directed at the Kenyan public, Al Shabaab said Kenya had not learnt any lesson from the attacks at Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Mpeketoni, Gamba and Mandera for which the group had claimed responsibility.

They further accused the Kenyan government of serving Western powers to the detriment of Kenyan citizens.

Al Shabaab has issued similar warnings in the past, directing its claims on what it terms as invasion of Kenyan forces in Somalia and the treatment of Muslims in Kenya.
