Slain gangsters had no terror links: Telangana minister

Hyderabad, April 4 (IANS): Telangana Home Minister N. Narasimha Reddy has denied that the two gangsters killed in a gunfight with police on Saturday had any terror links.

He told reporters here that both of them were suspected to be members of a gang from Uttar Pradesh and that investigations are on.

"They had no terror links. There is no question of this. This was an inter-state gang of dacoits," he said when asked about some media reports that the duo were members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India.

A policeman was killed and two officers were injured in the gunfight that occurred on Saturday morning near Janakipur village in Nalgonda district, about 175 km from here.

Shooting erupted when a police party engaged in combing operations came face to face with the gangsters, who earlier gunned down two policemen and injured two others in Suryapet town in the same district on Thursday.
