Mohun Bagan beat Salgaocar 3-1 to maintain top spot in I-League

Barasat (West Bengal), April 3 (IANS): Unbeaten Mohun Bagan continued their dream run in the I-League to beat Salgaocar FC 3-1 at the Barasat stadium here on Friday.

All four goals came in the second half of the match as Bagan’s Denson Devadas (51st minute), Yusa Katsumi (70th) and Sony Norde (85th) ensured the hosts gain three points from the match while Augustin Fernandes (52nd) pulled one for Salgaocar.

The win helped Green and Maroon hold on the top spot in I-League with 24 points from 10 games while Salgaocar FC are placed in fifth spot with 14 points from 11 games.

The hosts gave life to the game in the second half when Bagan scored in the 51st minute via a Norde free-kick.

Bello Rasaq got on the end of the delivery and headed it towards the goal before a touch by Devadas helped it into the net.

However, Salgaocar responded quickly. From a free-kick, the away side found the equaliser. Bagan failed to clear their lines and Douhou sent a cross into the box that Fernandes smashed in from close range in the 52nd minute.

The second goal for the hosts came in the 70th minute when striker Katsumi took advantage of Salgaocar’s loose defending and scored an easy tap in.

Eventually, the Kolkata giants made it 3-1 in the 85th minute when Norde singlehandedly dribbled the ball past two Salgaocar defenders and attempted a long shot which ended up in a cracker of a goal.
