Mangalore, Feb 22: In a major fire tragedy in recent times, 20 acres of land was gutted before near Ganjimath here on Thursday February 22.  A lorry carrying hay too was gutted in the tragedy.

The tragedy occurred when a lorry which was transporting hay to Gurpur from Malali caught fire after it came in touch with a live wire before reaching Ganjimath.  Within a few seconds the entire lorry was charred to ashes.  There was no chance whatsoever for anyone to overpower and extinguish fire.

Though fire brigades were summoned from Moodbidri and from the city, they were of no use since fire was out of control with huge flames engulfing the lorry. 

Fresh reports reaching Daijiworld office said that fire later spread to nearby hillock where cashew saplings were being bred.  As per now a total of 20 acres of land has been engulfed by fire. Fire was overpowered with the help of fire brigade which were summoned from the city and even from Moodbidri.
