Mangalore, Feb 22: The district administration has ordered the closure of schools and colleges in Mangalore city until Monday.

The city went without water from Tuesday morning as the High Lift pump situated at Ramalkatte near Thumbe here broke down.

As all the three pumps were inundated the repair works would take a few days and till then water would be supplied in private water tankers. However the district administration has ordered hostels to send their inmates back to their homes.

Several Engineers from Kirloskar and even from Bangalore have been engaged in repairing the pumps at Thumbe.

Meanwhile a order has been released to stop all building construction work in the city and the public has been requested to use water judiciously.

A special unit has been created to ration water and help lines have also been created. For water supply one can contact toll free number 155131 or call 2220303, 2220313, 2220314, 2220315, 2220316.
