Tamil Nadu farmers protest over Cauvery dam issue

Chennai, March 28 (IANS): A shutdown called by various farmer's organisations in Tamil Nadu on Saturday to protest against Karnataka's decision to build a dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu is underway peacefully without any untoward incident.

The protest is being supported by political parties.

Buses plying to Karnataka have been stopped. Almost all the shops in Thanjavur and several other districts are closed.

Shops in the Karaikal region of Puducherry are also closed.
