Islamabad, March 24 (IANS): A murder convict was hanged on Tuesday at Multan in Pakistan, a media report said.
The hanging took place in Multan Central Jail, Geo News reported. Nasrullah was convicted of murdering a man in 1994.
The Pakistani government lifted the moratorium on death penalties as a move to step up its fight against militants and criminals after Taliban militants killed around 150 people - mostly children - at Peshawar's Army Public School on December 16 last year.
The moratorium, in force since 2008, was initially lifted only in terrorism cases.
However, the government extended the order earlier this month, directing provincial governments to proceed with hanging for all death row prisoners who had exhausted their appeals and clemency petitions.
