Mangalore: 'Prasar Conqni' Konkani News Channel Begins

Mangalore, Feb 16: It's a novel step taken to promote Konkani and make it accessible to the masses; the Konkani news channel 'Prasar Conqni' has seen the light of the day.


A news channel which is exclusively created to cover and telecast news related to Konkani language, culture and its people is the ambitious project of Agnel Rodrigues who has already carved a niche by his Agnel's Ad-Venture which runs "Coastal Times", an English news channel.

On Thursday, February 15, the new Konkani news channel was launched at the studio premises of Coastal Times, at Bejai.


Inspector General of Police, Western Range, H N Sathyanarayana Rao launched the channel. Chairman, Sri Devi Education Trust Sadananda Shetty was the guest of honour. The first production was released by president Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario.


The telecast was initiated by Dean Kshema and Chairman, Tejaswini Hospital Dr Shantaram Shetty.

Sathyanarayana Rao who spoke on the occasion said that the local channels keep the people informed of the local events and happening. He further advised them to follow the general rules of the television media.


'Prasar Conqni' is indeed a novel step in Mangalore's media and is poised to a greater growth in the days to follow. It is also keen to promote local musicians and budding talents of the coastal region.

The outfit, owned by Agnel Rodrigues, has carved a niche for itself in local media with its reach even upto Suratkal, Ullal, Thokkottu, Bantwal and other places and is now ready to launch its own full-time Konkani news channel.
