Colombian jazz makes for ethereal evening

New Delhi, March 21 (IANS): Delhi-ites grooved to the beats of a Colombian band on Saturday evening at the fifth edition of the Delhi International Jazz Festival.

The three-day festival, held at the lush green lawns of Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri, has been organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with the tourism ministry. It kicked off with the lighting of the inauguration lamp by ICCR chairman Satish R. Mehta and Colombian Ambassador Monica Lanzetta.

The performers comprised Esteban Copete y su Kinteto Pacific from Colombia,
Enrico Zanisi Trio from Italy and Ariadna Castellanos from Spain.

The Colombian band was the second to go on stage after the Italian trio. Their instruments comprised the marimba, percussion, bongo, bass guitar and a soprano saxophone. Out of the seven tracks, two were instrumental and the rest had vocals.

The music was very upbeat, traditional Pacific Colombian sounds. The saxophone brought in the jazz element.

The band is scheduled to perform at the 'Fiesta Latina 2015' Latin American festival
at The Leela Hotel, Gurgaon, April 7-19.
