Mangalore, Feb 14: The wild visitor which created a day of panic and chaos to Mangaloreans drifted into a deep slumber, never to return again.

The animal which was caught on Sunday February 11 by the 'daring Mangaloreans' was entrusted to the care of Pilikula.

However on Wednesday morning the Nisargadhama vet found that that animal was cold and had stopped eating food from morning.

A team of government vets was also called to attend to the leopard. However its health deteriorated and at 2.30 pm, it died.

According to sources, it left its neck hanging down and could not lift it from morning. It is suspected that the animal had a series of interior injuries and internal bleeding in the body, which led to its collapse.

A few of its internal organs will be sent to Hebbal Research Centre to ascertain whether it suffered from certain diseases prior to its captivity. The report is expected be received in 15 days.

Some local newspapers had reported that some forest personnel, with inadequate knowledge of animal behaviour and temperament as also handling of animals, had resorted to pelting stones at it in despair to silence it.
