Mangalore, Feb 10: The first-ever English-Konkani dictionary in Kannada script was released on Saturday February 10 evening.

The dictionary published by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and compiled by well-known Konkani writer Stevan Quadros Permude was released by former state minister R V Deshpande at the IT Block of St Aloysius College.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore was the guest of honour on the occasion while Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario presided over the function.

Gabriel Vaz, member of Konkani Sahitya Academy welcomed the gathering while Prof Alwyn D'Sa introduced the compiler and the work to the gathering.  Stevan Quadros Permude proposed the vote of thanks.  Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy member Vincent Alva compered the programme.

The dictionary has 25,900 words and is priced at Rs 250.  However, a it is being sold at Rs 125 on the inaugural day.
