Magic of Mangalore in Oman

Muscat, Feb 9: It was purely a magic of majestic Mangalore exhibited in Oman today during the MCCP’s Mangalorean Day 2007 celebrations. The daylong program held at the huge and green pastured Oman Sports Club Grounds – Al Khuwair was completely and thoroughly enjoyed by all the members of the Managlorean Catholic Center of the Parish and community members.



After enjoying a chilling showers on Thursday evening, there were fears of disturbing rain during the Mangalorean Day program.  But, it was certainly the Almighty’s mercy that a beautiful breeze flew during the whole day and sunshine was so bright that every one enjoyed a fantastic weather.




The Mangalorean Day program registration of the members started at 11.30 am. After the registration, traditional lunch was served.  The event  commenced with a brief program of welcoming the visiting priests from Mangalore, Fr Eugene Lobo, Principal and Correspondent of St. Aloysius College – Mangalore, Fr Michaeal Lobo – Parish Priest of Maria Gorretti Church – Hirgann. Our own Mangalorean Priest of Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi – Fr Albert D Silva was also present. Joachim D Souza was the master of ceremony for the first part of the program. Clarence Pinto welcomed the gathering. Fr Albert D Silva declared the Mangalorean Day 2007 open.



The various team formed named after the various vegetables, Kuwale, Boblim, Mogim, Tendli, Gosalim, Karethim, Dudhi and Vaigim. There were many traditional games like breaking the coconuts, tug of war, mosaru kudike, carrot-tomatoes race  etc. Main Coordinator of Sports and Finance Committee of MCCP, Suraj Rebello controlled the whole day’s games and events with a professional touch.



Omantel was the main sponsor for the event and all the events of the current year. Areej Vegetable Oils (Minara), Ahmed Nasser Laskho and Associates, Truckoman, Premier Logistics, Khimji Ramdas, Ibn Sinna Pharmacy, Sweets of Oman, A’Safwah Dairy, National Biscuits, Mehdi Stores, National Mineral Water Company, Oman Agro Industries, Nestle Oman, W. J Towell, Al Amri Centre were the co-sponsors.

Flavia Menezes, Sports Secretary proposed vote of thanks.
