Finite series extremely encouraging: Indraneil Sengupta

Mumbai, March 13 (IANS): Indraneil Sengupta has heaped praise over the growing trend of finite series in the television industry. Terming the development as "great", the actor said a specific number of episodes ensures that the story doesn't deviate from its core.

"Finite series is extremely encouraging as the focus remains on the main story. It doesn't go off track," Indraneil said during a group interview here Tuesday.

Indraneil is gearing-up to return to the small screen with Zee TV show "Maharakshak Devi", which is a finite series. Anil Kapoor starrer "24" and Pakistani shows on Zindagi channel made way for short and crisp storytelling format instead of long-running shows.

The actor, known for serials like "Doli Saja Ke" and "Pyaar Ke Do Naam...Ek Radha Ek Shyaam", notes that it is a win-win situation for the audience as well as actors.

"Such series keep the audience hooked to the serial. It is good for actors as we do what we are asked to do and can reinvent ourself and find time to do other things as well. It is a great development," he said.

The actor, who has acted in Bollywood films like "1920" and "Kahaani", was tied up with his Bengali movie projects.

Ask him about the change he witnessed since he joined the regional industry, the actor is quick to note that the industry has failed to keep up its promise.

"When I started doing Bengali cinema, it was going through a great phase with new directors coming in, meaningful cinema was being made. But in the couple of years, it has dipped. It has failed to keep up its promise. I hope it revives," he said.
