Mangalore, Feb 7: English-Konkani Sobdhavol (Dictionary) of Stephen Quadros Permude to be released on February 10, 2007 in the St Aloysius College IT Block at 4 pm.

A selection grade lecturer (Professor) of History in the Government first Grade College Kaup, Udupi since 2000, the dictionary is said to be yet another contribution to Konkani language.

Stephen, who has been actively involved in the literary world, will bring out his work under the sponsorship of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Mangalore. He has compiled this first English-Konkani (Canarese Script) dictionary.

This work comprises of 25,900 words and is in 1,112-page book which will soon see the light of the day due to the generous support of R V Deshpande. The dictionary will be sold only for Rs 125 on the day of release.

The dictionary will be released by former Minster R V Deshpande. Mangalore Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza will be the chief guest and president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Eric Ozario will preside over the programme.

Well-known as a writer and scholar, Stephan is a gold medalist with first rank in MA and has been an active NSS volunteer for 6 years and received the special recognition award from the Government of Karnataka for imparting non-formal literacy to 49 illiterates year 1987. He has served as the secretary if Mangalore Diocesan CLC, president, Mangalore Diocesan CLC for two terms.

An active NSS officer for six years, Stephen has been the member of various text book committees of Government of India and Government of Karnataka and also reviewer of books for the various government agencies.

He has authored 52 text books for pre-university and under graduate and post graduate courses in History and has also authored 3 books of literary interest. He has written and published ‘Sahitya Ani Vimarso’ the first book on literature and criticism in Konkani.
