Dubai: 'Katrina' to Storm Dubai on April 12 at Indian Consulate

Dubai, Feb 5: After a gap of a few years, one of Konkani's musical legends and songwriters, Henry D'Souza of 'Ye Ye Katrina' and 'Ami Dogi Sezara' fame, is scheduled to come to the UAE once again , this time as a guest artiste, but to entertain with his popular Konkani hits.

Mumbai's veteran Henry D`Souza will be performing in the Indian Consulate hall on Thursday, April 12 and the event is being organized by Daiji Dubai, Konkani Writers' Forum. The event will also mark the presentation of the annual Daiji Dubai Award 2007 to another Konkani legend Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus. The programme will start at 7.30 pm.

Henry D'Souza has rendered some of the all-time best Konkani hits to the Konkani music-lovers in the past years. His 'Ye Ye Katrina' song has created history and it has been sung at the international level, specially Sri Lanka, Spain and Portugal, in respective local versions.

Asha Maben nee Rego, one-time Mandd Sobhann's much-admired singer, who has even specialized in classical singing will also perform at the event. Asha, currently residing in Dubai, has been featured in some musical events in Dubai. One of her recent performances was at the Shirva Fest.

Daijidubai member and talented singer Rony Baindur and others will also sing songs. Veteran Daijidubai member and singer-composer M P Rodrigues will direct the music for the talented local singers. A Manddo will be presented under his guidance.

Daiji Rangmandir troupe, under the leadership of ace actor-director Dayan D`Souza, will perform short skits which are expected to enthrall audience in a big way, as Dayan is a popular comedy actor in and around Dubai and at the international level.

Hemacharya, chief convener of Daiji Dubai writers' forum, said that the entire programme would last about 2hrs and 30 minutes. Entry passes at a very nominal price will be made available, but a limited number of audience, as the capacity of the hall is just 600.
