Ariana Grande 'almost died' during stage performance

Los Angeles, Feb 28 (IANS): Singer Ariana Grande "almost died" during the opening night of The Honeymoon Tour when she got trapped in a malfunctioning lift.

The 21-year-old chart-topper was performing at the opening night of her tour in Kansas City Wednesday evening when a wooden platform which was supposed to take her onto the stage, snapped, causing her to narrowly avoid getting "crushed", reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Speaking in a video update on her YouTube channel titled 'That time I almost died during love me harder (but actually this time)', she explained: "I almost died. I can't stop thinking about this, because it was literally the craziest. So the wooden thing breaks and goes like this."

The 22-year-old star, who is dating rapper Big Sean, then gestured how the panel had snapped from a horizontal to a vertical position, and went on to explain the terrifying moments which followed, during which she clung onto a beam until she was saved by crew members.

"I'm about to be crushed by mechanical, by metal s**t and by wood and stuff, and I go like this and grab this thing," she continued.

However, the near-death experience, which happened during a performance of her single "Love me harder", didn't faze her and she managed to continue singing the hit.

She added: "I didn't drop the mic. I was like, 'Oh I gotta keep singing'."
