Rons Bantwal for Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 17: As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, the Konkani Triveni Kala Sangam (R), Mumbai, recently organized ‘Konkani Utsav’ in the Nehru Centre auditorium, Worli here.


Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat was present as the chief guest. 

Manipal Education Academy president Ramdas Pai presided over the function.


Jyothirbhaskar Jayantrao Salgaonkar,  Reserve Bank deputy governor  V Leeladhar, Century Group of Companies working president Panemangalore Dayanand Pai, educationist Grace Pinto, Bank of India executive director K R Kamat, industrialist G V Masoorkar,  Bank of Maharashtra CMD M D Mallya, Union Bank chairman M V Nair and Vijaya Bank CMD P P Mallya, were the guests of honour.

Builder K K Avareshekar and S Kohli were present on the dais.

Kala Sangam Konkani Utsav chief coordinator Ullas Kamath welcomed the gathering. 

Grace Pinto released the silver jubilee souvenir, while Jayantrao Salgaonkar released ‘Sri Vishnu Sahasramaya’ a book by Nagesh Sondhe.

A special programme during the day ‘Konkani Vaibhav’, was inaugurated by Model Cooperative Bank working president Albert W D’Souza.


Goa Konkani Academy president Pundalik Naik presided over Konkani programme. Dr Zahir Khazi spoke on ‘Konkani in medical field’, while Udaykumar and Lawrence D’Souza spoke on various other subjects.

Konkani Bhasha Mandal Mumbai president P N Shanbaugh presided over ‘Konkani Bhasha Vaividya’ programme. Antony Sequeira of Arcadia Shares, Geetha Pai, Prof Vishnumurthy Naik and Gasper D’Souza gave information on various topics.


 ‘Konkani Sandhya’, a programme in the evening on the same day, was inaugurated by well – known theatre artistes and actors Jaidev and Rohini Hattangady.

Goan folk dances and sigmo dances of Karnataka were performed. A Konkani ballet directed by Fr Charles Vas SVD was also staged. Humour poems and dance by children were part of the day – long  programme. 

Hari Pai Haldipura compered while Kamalaksha Saraf gave the vote of thanks.
