Pakistan army chief, Sharif discuss security situation


Islamabad, Feb 6 (IANS): Pakistan Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif Friday discussed matters relating to the armed forces and the country's internal security situation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here.

The army chief also took the prime minister into confidence over his recent visit to Beijing where he held meetings with top Chinese political and military leadership, Dawn reported citing Sources.

The prime minister was also informed about the armed forces' decision to organise a joint services parade on Pakistan Day.

The joint military parade of Pakistan's armed forces would take place March 23 and will be organised by the joint staff headquarters in Rawalpindi, which oversees the country's three armed forces.

Gen. Sharif also apprised the prime minister about successes in the ongoing operation Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan and surrounding areas.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated the resolve of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and said that the government and the nation fully supported the armed forces.
