Man accused of murdering 22 people killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, Feb 6 (IANS): A suspected target killer in Pakistan was shot dead Friday during an "escape bid", a day after he confessed before the media to killing 22 people.

Suspect Obaid Urrehman confessed to killing four doctors, eight policemen and a number of political workers in Karachi at a press conference held by the police Thursday, Pakistan Today reported.

On Friday, police claimed that the suspect was killed in crossfire when he attempted to escape from police custody and snatched a gun from a police constable.

Karachi, Pakistan`s biggest city and economic hub, has wrestled for several years with a wave of criminal, sectarian and political murders, forcing the authorities to launch a targeted operation across the city to tackle criminal elements.
