Kargil shivers at minus 21 degrees C


Srinagar, Feb 6 (IANS): Kargil town in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir Friday recorded minus 21 degrees Celsius, the season's lowest minimum temperature in the state so far.

"Kargil town recorded minus 21 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today which is not only the lowest recorded so far this season in Kargil, but also the lowest recorded anywhere in the state this season," an official of the Met department told IANS in summer capital Srinagar Friday.

"The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 1.9 degrees Celsius today. It was minus 9.2 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 8.5 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg. In Leh town the minimum temperature was minus 13.1 degrees Celsius," the official said.

The official also said the minimum temperature was 6.7 degrees Celsius in Jammu city Friday.

The Met has forecast moderate rainfall with thunder squalls for the next 24 hours.
