Udupi / Mumbai, Jan 8: Elder brother of union minister Oscar Fernandes and former general manager of State Bank of India Lawrence Anthony Desmond Fernandes - "Lawrie" - (76) passed away of a cardiac arrest in Mumbai on January 6.
Son of the late Roque Fernandes, renowned one-time headmaster of Board High School, Udupi, was an alumnus of St Aloysius College, Mangalore. After BCom he joined the banking service and after serving in different posts and retired as general manager of the State Bank of India.
He had also served as chairman of Public Sector Banks' Joint Publicity Committee for some years.
He is survived by wife, two sons and four daughters.
