Mumbai, Jan 30 (IANS): Versatile actor Kay Kay Menon, whose next movie "Rahasya" is in the eye of storm for reportedly being based on the infamous Aarushi Talwar murder case, says movies do not need the push of a controversy to get an audience.

Asked if pre-release controversies help a film in any way, on this, Kay Kay told IANS: "I think that's a very wrong thought. I don't think a film needs controversy to get mileage. A film should run on its own merit."

"If your film is genuinely good, then it will be liked by the audience," he added.

The Bombay High Court recently rejected a petition filed by dentist couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, who had sought a stop on the release of "Rahasya", said to based on the murder of their daughter Arushi and domestic help Hemraj.

Talking about the film, Menon said: "The Aarushi Talwar murder case was famous, so people are comparing it. It's a fictional story. This story has got nothing to do with Aarushi murder case."

Directed by Manish Gupta, "Rahasya" also features Tisca Chopra and Ashish Vidyarthi.
