Los Angeles, Jan 28: Indian born actress Freida Pinto assays the role of the leading lady named Elaheh in the upcoming Hollywood movie Desert Dancer. The story is based on the life of Afshin Ghaffarian who was a self taught dancer from Iran and who had to run away from his own homeland in order to pursue his passion, which was forbidden in Iran.

Freida Pinto is seen giving free reigns to her dancing grooves in the recently released trailer of the movie which brings forth the poignancy of the struggle faced by Afshin who merely wished to dance. Freida is reported to have undergone rigorous training for up to 14 hours a day, every day for fourteen weeks in order to do justice to her role in the film.

Directed by Richard Raymond it follows Afshin, played by Reece Ritchie, from when he was in school and following his heart in dancing whenever it caught his fancy. Subsequently the little boy is seen walking up to his mother and showing her his hands where he has been beaten for dancing, which is forbidden. His mother counsels him to follow his dream secretly and the boy does so.

Soon after he wishes to pass on his learning and so decides to start an underground dance school away from the prying eyes of the moral police of his land. Frieda Pinto arrives with a similar flame for dancing in her heart and expresses her wish to join his school. Afshin though is soon captured by the lawmakers of his country and has to escape to a foreign land.

The movie is set to release in the United States on the 10thof April, 2015.
