Mangalore, Jan 3: A J Hospital and Research Centre, one of the most advanced institutions of the nation offering the best of technology in medical care will inaugurate the most advanced 64 slice cardiac CT machine in the Department of Radio Diagnosis.

This was informed by medical director, Dr Prashanth Marla in a press meet here on Wednesday, Jan 3.

The machine manufactured by Wipro GE Medical systems is the latest and fastest in the world which can image the entire heart in just five beats, said Dr Prashanth.

The Ct Coronary Angiogram is a simple, non-invasive method to evaluate the status of coronary vessels that supply blood to the heart. It involves imaging of the heart after injecting contrast medium in one f the small peripheral veins while the patient relaxes o the machine table, explained Dr Prashant, adding that it is done on an outpatient basis and the entire procedure is over in a few minutes.

The machine is used to screen patients at high risk for coronary artery disease, follow-up of bypass patients, stent and functional cardiac assessment.

In addition angiogram of any part of the body like brain, kidney, limbs and abdomen can be done. The machine can also perform enhanced diagnostic applications like CT colonography, CT urography, virtual bronchoscopy and CT DSA.

On January 5, the 64 Slice Cardiac CT and Computerized Radiography system will be inaugurated by Health Minister, Kerala State PK Sreemathi. Dakshina Kananda district in-charge Minster B Nagaraj Shetty will preside over the programme held in the premises of the hospital.

PRO A J Hospital and Research Centre Shiva Prasad Rai, Dr Ganesh and Dr Prasad Hegde of the Radiology Department were also present at the press meet.
