Mangalore, Dec 30: Sheer negligence on Thursday, December 29 created artificial deluge in Karavali Utsav.

The water from the newly-constructed water storage tank under the Asian Development Bank-funded project flooded the entire Karavali Utsav grounds creating a chaos in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to sources the water regulator was opened so that the water gets stored in the tank. However none noticed that the tank was overflowing at midnight. The excess water got accumulated in the ground where the month-long Karavali Utsav was going on.

Thousands of gallons of water flowed into the ground, flooding every stall resulting in huge losses to the stall-owners.

Early morning joggers and sportspersons who use the Mangala Stadium came to the rescue of the stall-owners by helping them shift their products to dry places.

After hours of work, the water was directed out of the ground.

It's indeed a disgrace that the city which has been seeing water crisis every summer loses thousands of gallons of water due to sheer negligence.

Who is answerable? Who will compensate the losses incurred by the stall owners?

Whose money is it, anyway?
