Sensex up 76 points; banking stocks gain


Mumbai, Jan 21 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Wednesday was trading at 75.73 points or 0.26 percent up as banking stocks gained.

Good buying was seen in banking and capital goods sectors and marginal selling pressure was seen in the health care sector.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,843.09 points, was trading at 28,860.40 points (at 09.22 a.m.) in the early session, up 75.73 points or 0.26 percent from the previous day's close at 28,784.67 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 28,880.80 points and a low of 28,830.04 points in the trade so far.

The S&P bankex surged by 134.24 points and capital goods index moved up by 120.64 points. However, the health care index slipped by 14.95 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 22 points or 0.25 percent up at 8,717.60 points.
