Gurgaon, Jan 18 (IANS): With an aim to spread awareness about the sufferings and discrimination endured by victims of all forms of harassment, children from charitable organisation World Vision India participated in a musical production “Daphne” here Sunday.
In association with Blank Delhi Productions, around 30 children from World Vision India’s children club and Area Development Programmes (ADPs) between 10 and 18 years age group participated in the musical.
The children underwent training since October 2014 to be a part of the musical.
Based on the parallel stories of the ancient nymph princess Daphne and the modern-age woman, the show was a combination of jazz, contemporary and freestyle western dance.
“'Daphne' has opened new doors for these children. Not only have they got an opportunity to explore different dance forms, but they have also been educated on the topic of harassment and the mentality of the public towards such activities,” Mercy Mirabel Nimal, manager, Northwest Delhi ADP, World Vision India, said in a statement.
“There needs to be a transformation in people’s approach to such situations, which still blames the victims for such mishaps. It is important for all of us to understand that such an attitude only further traumatises those subjected to harassment and also helps leave the perpetrators on the loose,” the statement added.
