Udupi, Dec 21: The Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT), Bangalore as issued an interim order to maintain status quo on 22 acres of land at Karvalu near Alevoor here will March 8, 2007.

As reported earlier the City Municipal Council had planned to construct a dumping yard on the 22 acres of land opposite to Karant Kala grama (Karant Art Village) on Survey No 21 with the help of KUIDFC.  However one Mohan Nayak along with former president of Udupi Urban Development Authority Alevoor Nagaraj had filed a petition in the High Court questioning the decision of the administration.  The High Court in turn had asked the petitioner to approach KAT, Bangalore.

The petitioner's had challenged Kundapur AC's order which had directed city council to acquire 22 acres of land for dumping yard.  Speaking to the press persons, taluk panchayat president Shyamala Sudhakar said that despite interim order to maintain status quo, construction work is still going on.  "But if the work is not stopped within the next two days, we will take to streets and hold protest," she added.

Alevoor Nagaraj, Karvalu Ramchandra Nayak, Mohan Nayak, Alevoor Harish Kini and others were also present at the press conference.
