Muscat, Dec 14 (7-30 pm - Oman Standard Time): Rains are rare in the Sultanate of Oman. But when it rains once in a while, it really comes with a vengeance.

The same thing happened in the evening of Thursday, December 14. Many people may have had plans for the weekend. Maybe many had disappointment in store for them.

Being surrounded by mountains, Al Wadi Al Kabir area in the Muscat region, is always prone to flash floods in the event of rains. But the rains did not dampen this correspondent's spirit to venture out to click some pictures for our readers.

The visibility being low, they may not be very bright. They just represent the situation as it was.

Many nationals as well as expatriates were standing outside their houses and business establishments enjoying the rare sight of rain and floods. A few were found capturing the scenario on their cellphones.

Rains being rare, the motorists do not seem to realize the risks of driving fast on the wet surfaces. Caution is the buzzword in such situations.

As yet, there were no reports of any mishaps on the roads.
