Mangalore, Dec 11: An exhibition of rare currencies ‘Karavali Nanya Darshana’ was organized by the Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatic Association at Ganapati High School here on Sunday December 10.



A total of 15 collectors exhibited their coins and currency notes. Y T Michael, Gladys Rego, M R Pavanje, S C Sequeira, Irene Vaz, N Rajagopal Hebbar, M P Kamath, Vinod V Joshi, V V Joshi, Vinaya V Joshi, Lakshman Prabhu, and others showcased their rare collections.



The exhibition was held in memory of late P V Rao.  His son, Prasad Rao, was one of the exhibitors.

Currencies on display included ancient Chinese coins dating back to 700 B C, world’s first silver and gold notes issued by Antigua and Barbuda, Nizam’s currencies, notes belonging to the era of British rule in India, plastic currencies of New Zealand and others.



One of the collectors, Srinivas Rao, exhibited his collection of currencies from 180 nations.

There were several sales counters at the venue. This was the first such exhibition held in the district by the association.
