Mangalore, Dec 11: Perhaps Mangalore's citizens had to hang their heads in shame, when internationally known Hindustani vocalist Padma Shri Parveen Sultana had a grouse about the bad roads in the city and around.

Maybe it needed an artiste of her status and calibre to put the powers-that-be to shame in the matter.

She expressed her utter displeasure at the state of the roads and said that travel over a stretch of two days, added by the horrible roads, had affected her voice.

She expressed sadness that, as a result of it, she could not give her best to the audience.

The audience could not have agreed with her any better, especially in the matter of roads.

She said so before performing at a vocal recital programme arranged by Sangeet Bharati organization, Mangalore in the town hall on Sunday evening.

She began her performance with Puria Dhanashri vocals, accompanied by Pandit Vasant Kanakapur on the harmonium, Rajendra Nakod on tabla with assistance from Mahalaxmi Karkala and Haroon Miraj.

Sangeet Bharati president Ustad Rafiq Khan and top officials of Corporation Bank, sponsors of the event, were present. Ushaprabha Nayak compered the programme.
