Awaiting comeback call to play 2015 World Cup: Pietersen

London, Dec 19 (IANS): Former England captain Kevin Pietersen Friday took to Twitter to express his wish to play at the 2015 World Cup starting Feb 14 and said his phone will be switched ‘on’ as he hopes to get a come-back call.

Pietersen wrote: “The @ECB_cricket selectors meet today. Get @Eoin16 as captain and a little man called Kevin @KP24 into the side. Phone is on!”

In a Big Bash encounter against Adelaide Strikers, Pietersen hit 66 off 46 deliveries in his debut for the Melbourne Stars and hoped that England selectors were watching his quick-fire knock.

While fielding on the boundary Thursday, Pietersen said on the player mic: “Someone told me the England selectors were meeting this morning - I hope they've got a screen on,” the dailymail.co.uk. reported.

With the likes of Shane Warne, Michael Vaughan and Darren Gough voicing their support in favour of Pietersen’s knock, it would be possible that even the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) would have be eyeing the stroke-maker for the World Cup.
