Wolfsburg hold Borussia Dortmund 2-2 in Bundesliga

Berlin, Dec 18 (IANS): VfL Wolfsburg came back twice to share the spoils with struggling Borussia Dortmund while Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to secure a 4-4 thanks to Alexander Meier at the closer of the 16th round in Bundesliga.

Second-placed Wolfsburg secured a two-all draw against relegation-threatened Dortmund in a see-saw match Wednesday. Dortmund gave away the lead twice, allowing Wolfsburg to snatch one point, reports Xinhua.

Juergen Klopp's men started aggressively to open the scoring with just eight minutes into the game. Ciro Immobile sent a cross to Pierre Emerick Aubameyang inside the box, where the Gabon international tapped in a volley at the far post.

The "Wolves" remained unfazed and responded with nearly 30 minutes into the game when Kevin De Bruyne slotted home a free-kick from 20 metres into the bottom right.

Dortmund continued their attack after the restart and they were rewarded for their efforts as Ciro Immobile unleashed a long-range shot to ensure the 2-1 for the "BVB" in the 76th minute.

However, the visitors from Lower Saxony had the last laugh when they restored parity with five minutes remaining as Naldo headed home a corner by Ricardo Rodriguez.

With the draw, runners-up Wolfsburg lost ground against front-runners Bayern Munich while 16th placed Dortmund failed to relieve their worries as they remain on a relegation play-off spot.

In another game, SV Werder Bremen slipped to the bottom as Borussia Monchengladbach gave them their eighth loss of the season. Bremen lost 1-4. The victory moved Monchengladbach to the third place while Bremen slumped to the last of the table.

Frankfurt flabbergasted Hertha BSC 4-4 as they turned the tides after being behind 0-3. With this draw Berlin stay on the 13th position whilst Frankfurt slip to the ninth place.

Elsewhere, Schalke 04 came from behind to win 2-1 against newly promoted Paderborn 07. Schalke jumped into the top five while Paderborn slump to the 12th place.

Bayer Leverkusen secured a narrow 1-0 victory over TSG Hoffenheim courtesy Stefan Kiessling's goal from the 79th minute. With the result the "Werkself" slipped to the fourth place whereas Hoffenheim remain on seventh.
