41 fall ill after gas leakage in Bhopal

Bhopal, Nov 30 (IANS): At least 41 people fell ill Saturday following leakage of toxic gas from a chemical factory near the Madhya Pradesh capital, police said.

The gas leakage took place at the plant situated in the Mandideep industrial area in Raisen district, around 25 km from Bhopal.

Workers at the specialty organic factory complained of breathlessness following the gas leak Saturday evening, police officer S.S. Rathore told IANS.

They were taken to a hospital in Mandideep. The condition of three workers was said to be serious and they were shifted to Bhopal for further treatment.

Police suspect that the gas that leaked was chlorine, which is used in the factory.
