New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday directed central armed police forces (CAPFs) to put in place a stronger monitoring mechanism to ensure proper and timely utilization of funds provided for modernisation of forces, a government statement said.

The home minister was reviewing the status of utilisation of funds provided to CAPFs for their modernisation.

"Since the financial powers to the directors general of central armed police forces have been enhanced, there should be stronger monitoring mechanism to ensure timely and quality procurement of equipment for the force," the statement cited Rajnath Singh as saying.

Financial powers of directors general of CAPFs were enhanced by home ministry last month.

The home minister also discussed different reports on police reforms and the status of their implementation.

He mentioned that the accepted recommendations of these reports should be implemented in consultation with the states at the earliest.

"The home minister also discussed the status of the national security commission and state security commissions in the country," the statement said.
