Mangalore, Nov 2: Noted Kannada writer, thinker, former principal of Govindadas College, Suratkal Sitaram Achar Hosabettu (74), better known as See. Hosabettu passed away in his residence "Neralu" at Suratkal on Thursday November 2 morning.

It was only on Wednesday November 1 that DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura had gone to his house and bestowed him with Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award for his service to the field of literature.

He was born on May 15, 1932 at Hosabettu near Suratkal here.  After securing MA and B.Ed degrees, he had begun his career as teacher in Vidyadayini Kannada Medium School.  Meanwhile he even completed his PhD on "Thorave Ramayana."  In between he was promoted to the post of school inspector and lived in several places owing to his professional commitments.  After sometime he joined Govindadas College as Kannada professor.  Finally he retired as principal of the same college.

He was a renowned columnist and his columns are still running in some of the major eveningeers here.  His books "Nooraru Chintanegalu" and "Chintana Manthana" are widely appreciated by the readers all over.  He was also a dedicated teacher and had served as the principal of Govindadas College at Suratkal.  He was active in literature and cultural activities for more than 6 decades and had earned lot of fame owing to his simplicity, creative thinking and generous nature.  He had donated his eyes so that the blinds may get to see the beauty of this world.

His two collections of poems "Pranaya" and "Prabuddha" too had established him as one of the premier poets.  He has written thousands of articles to various magazines, periodicals and newspapers.  Despite his illness in the last couple of years, he had not distanced himself from writing.

He was awarded with prestigious 'Vardhamana Award', Best School Inspector award and several others along with the Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award which was conferred on him on Wednesday.

He is survived by wife, a daughter and two sons.
