Lin Dan withdraws from Denmark Open due to injury

Copenhagen, Oct 17 (IANS): Chinese badminton superstar Lin Dan has withdrawn from the Yonex Denmark Open due to a knee injury.

Lin withdrew shortly before his duel against third-seeded Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark Thursday due to a knee injury suffered in the first round, reports Xinhua.

"I'm really sorry that I had to withdraw. I had problems with my knee after the game Wednesday, and it became worse during the training Thursday," Lin said.

Lin's withdrawal means Jorgensen will advance to the quarter-finals and will meet India's Parupalli Kashyap.

Jorgen expressed disappointment that he did not get a match against the five-time world champion Lin Dan, but welcomes the fact that he is now going further in the tournament.

"I'm disappointed. I would have really liked to play this game. It is the match you live and breathe for, so I would have really liked to be in action against him here at home," Jorgensen said.
