Ebola-infected NGO worker arrives in Germany

Berlin, Oct 3 (EFE): A member of a humanitarian aid organisation, infected by the Ebola virus, arrived in Frankfurt Friday from Africa in an ambulance plane and under strict isolation conditions to be treated for the disease.

After landing, the victim was rushed to University Hospital in a special vehicle escorted by the police.

Authorities have not revealed the victim's nationality nor in which country he was infected, but medical sources are expected to provide further information during the day.

The patient is the second one with the deadly virus to be flown to Germany for treatment. The first one was admitted to a hospital in the city of Hamburg in August.

Health authorities and the medical centre started preparing for receiving the patient a few days ago.

Meanwhile, a group of 100 volunteers, both civilians and military personnel, are preparing to travel in the next few days to west Africa to help Ebola victims.

The German defence ministry has guaranteed safe and urgent return to the volunteers in case they become infected by the virus.
