Dubai, Sep 18: Mangalore Konkans Dubai, a well known Mangalorean community organization in Dubai, will organise a talent festival here on Friday September 22 at the Indian Consulate Hall. Over 200 contestants will line-up to exhibit their singing and acting talent.

"Though we have been organizing such events in the past for more than 17 years (on alternate years) there has never been such enthusiasm and interest among the community members, never did we have such a big line of contestants. Over 200 contestants including children and adults have registered until the closing date Friday 15th September," according to Linus Moras, main coordinator of the event and senior member of Mangalore Konkans.

"It's amazing to see that 99% of the entries received have been through daijiworld.com's on-line registration. With minimum efforts, we have got the maximum response; now it is up to us to organize a fair and magnificent competition on Friday" he said.

"Unfortunately we had to close a couple of entries much before the closing date. Still enquires are pouring in from those who missed the penultimate date. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate more."

The show is divided into two parts. Morning session will commence at 9.30 am, but registration counter for the participants will open at 9.00 am.  Afternoon session will start at 3.30 pm with the registration counter opening at 3.00 pm.

The capacity of the hall is about 600 and the organizers fear that the number may exceed much more than the capacity. The seating will be on a first-come-first-serve basis and the entry will be FREE.

Dasprakash Restaurant will provide the food, at a nominal price.

The main attraction of the show will be the 'laughter competition' a first ever of its kind held in Dubai. The response for this event has been encouraging, the organizers say. Also, Konkani one act skit competition is expected to enthral the audience.

UAE has an abundance of talent, especially in those who are above 18 years. It will be interesting to watch them take up this event as a challenge to display their talents.

Competitions will be held in the following categories:

Singing contest in Konkani for kids (5 yrs - 8 yrs),
Singing contest in Konkani for kids (9yrs - 12 yrs),
Solo singing contest for youth (13 yrs - 18 yrs),
Solo singing contest for women (above 18 yrs),
Solo singing contest for men (above 18yrs),
Duet singing contest (men & women, above 18yrs),
Group singing (open to all)

Instrumental Competition for youth (15 yrs - 20 yrs),
Konkani laughter competition (open to all),
Konkani one act skit competition (open to all) and others
